Under 8 Yth 2008-09

Kew AFC Under 8s play in the Red Division of the Surrey Youth League.

Our last few games have been difficult.  Generally the pattern has been, that after a competitive first half, we’ve let the opposition run the game in the second. See Match Reports. Our final match of a long season was at home to Old Isleworthians Youth Red, see Pictures. For all Fixtures, follow the link.

We’ve found it tougher moving up to the Red Division. After a good start, we lost our three games in December but have showed improvement in the New Year. A close game against Feltham Youth, was followed by a win against Corinthian Casuals, then a draw with Wandgas and a single goal to Old Isleworthians Red decided the game on 14 Feb. Defeats away to Epsom Eagles, Worcester Park and Sutton United have followed. See Match Reports. After eight weeks of away matches, we finally played at home, against Tooting and Mitcham, but with the same outcome. In between, the team had performed well at a 5-a-side tournament at KPR. More losses before Easter, then we won a friendly afterwards before suffering our heaviest defeat at Tooting and Mitcham.

Under 8s skills were on display at the clubhouse opening - see Training photos page.

  • Our aim for the under 8's is to give young players a safe, enjoyable and fun introduction to playing and learning the game.
  • On an individual level we aim to develop and improve players skills, agility, and on field decision making.
  • We aim to help them understand the rules of the game and their roles within a football team.
  • On a collective level we intend to promote a strong squad spirit and team ethos.
  • We aim to compete to the best of our ability and to do so by being fair, respectful of each other, our opposition, and the officials.

The managers and players of our Under 8 squad largely consist of the team that played as U7s for Kew Park Rangers. In the summer, we won the Bedfont Green 7-a-side tournament as KPR Claret.
