We’ve moved one step nearer the title on 29 March, seeing off Molesey Juniors 7-0 to stay top with one game to play. While we were winning comfortably, our nearest rivals, both won by just 1-0. We went back to the top, after beating our nearest rivals, Worcester Park, 1-0 last Sunday, 22 March. We’re equal on points, but we have more wins and a better head-to-head. An absolutely vital win over Sheen Lions, 5-2, probably knocked them out of contention, while promotion rivals Carshalton and KPR cancelled each other out with a 0-0 draw. Surrey Predators have withdrawn, but it doesn’t affect the main contenders as each of the top five had played them only once. With the top three all not playing on Sunday 1st March, we remain top of the Table, even though we lost our previous match to Carshalton, who join us on 28 points. We stay ahead of them on the head-to-head, as we’ve got a better aggregate score. A comprehensive 16-0 thrashing of bottom side, Surrey Predators, saw us take over top spot, on 15 Feb, leapfrogging Carshalton. That followed an important win to keep up the promotion pressure as we beat 5th-placed AFC Epsom on 1 Feb. It kept us in second. Our first match in six weeks, on 18 Jan, had resulted in a comprehensive win 11-0 win over visitors Ashford Town.
A 0-5 win at Junior Bees on 7 Dec was enough to keep us 2nd at Christmas. In a see-saw table, we’d slipped to 5th on 30 Nov, as we lost to local rivals, KPR, who as a result, went top. Our match on 23 Nov at bottom side, Surrey Predators fell victim to the weather, denying us the chance to regain top spot, as previously unbeaten Sheen Lions lost to Kew Park Rangers. We’d bounced straight back from our first league loss, to win a potentially tricky away match on 16 Nov against AFC Epsom, who had moved up to equal with us on points. Sheen Lions had inflicted our first defeat and took over at the top. Our best away win of the season, 0-7 at Ashford Town saw us finish October at the top of the table. Previously, it had been a game of two halves against Molesey Juniors on 19 Oct, where we scored all our goals in the first half, then had to defend the lead, in spite of losing our two central defenders, to earn a hard fought 3-4 victory. That followed a 4-0 win over Carshalton. The only point we’d dropped in our early matches was a hard-fought 1-1 at Worcester Park on 21 Sept. We began with a stunning 8-1 victory over Junior Bees. Our interest in the Cup competitions however, came to a quick end, with elimination in successive weekends. On 5 Oct, we suffered an early exit from the Surrey Cup as we failed to cope with the wind and rain, losing to Melwood FC. The previous week, we’d had the luck of the draw against us in the League Cup, but the boys put up a good contest against a team from a higher division, going down 1-0 at Manorcroft United.
