Under 11 Yth 2008-09

Kew AFC Under 11s play in the First Division of the Surrey Youth League.

Although we lost our last match of the season to lowly Camberley Boys Royals, we still had enough points to finish 3rd in our first season, see Table.  Sheen Lions guaranteed their hold on 2nd with an easy win.  Disappointing to miss promotion, especially as we demonstrated in our Cup run that we could compete with teams at a higher level.  All results for the season are listed.

Match by match: After a walkover over our latest opponents, Tooting and Mitcham Stripes, who could not field a team for our match on 19 April, we’re guaranteed at least third in the League.  That followed a handy 6-2 win on 5 April over Bedfont Green Juniors. Promotion is still a faint possibility, but it’s now Sheen Lions’ to lose. They consolidated 2nd place, by beating us 1-5 at home to complete the double. See Match Reports.  That drops us to 4th, but if we win our remaining matches, we’ll finish at least 3rd. We recorded a decisive 6-1 win over Kingstonians on 22 March to stay in the promotion race. It was a potentially tricky match at they’d beaten us early in the season. Congratulations to Wandgas, who’ve won the league on 15 March - with four games still to play, they can’t be caught. A blow to our promotion hopes as we lost at Sheen Lions to see them move four points clear of us. But with games in hand, it is still a possibility. We bounced back to winning ways with a 7-0 victory against bottom side Kew Park Rangers on 8 March.  That moved us up from 5th to 3rd. We suffered our biggest loss of the season on 1st March, 5-0 at runaway division leaders, Wandgas, who’ve gone 13 points clear. That result drops us to 5th, but just one point below three other teams contesting the second automatic promotion spot. A 3-0 win at 2nd placed Morden Park Rangers on 15 Feb, moved us to within one point of them, with four games in hand. And our closest rivals, Sheen and Kingstonian both dropped points as they shared a goal less draw. We played our first League match of the New Year on 1 Feb, winning 8-0 at Bedfont Green to go back up to 4th place. A brilliant Surrey Cup run came to an end on 18 Jan, losing on penalties to premiership side, Tooting and Mitcham Terrors. See Match Reports We now know we can be competitive if we win promotion.  We drew our last game of the year, 2-2 at Walcountian Sharks, to maintain 3rd place and keep them in 4th. We got through to the last 16 of the Surrey FA after an extra time victory over 7th Dec visitors, Melwood FC. But we made it hard for ourselves, having to score two late goals after going one behind right at the start of extra time. Before that, on 16 Nov, we recorded a classy 0-7 win on our travels to Camberley.

We’d got through to the 3rd round of the Surrey FA Cup with a repeat of the league victory over Tooting & Mitcham Stripes, on 26 Oct. That had followed two close losses - We went down to a classy Wandgas side on 19 Oct, a week after losing our unbeaten run in the league to local rivals, Kingstonian Youth Colts.  Mixed fortunes in the Cup. On 5 October, we were knocked out of the Invitation Cup as AFC Walcountian Sharks took to the water better than we did on the first rainy day of the season. But we enjoyed a polished first round Surrey Cup victory over Badshot Lea Colts on 28 Sept. Prior to that, we beat our Cup conquerors, AFC Walcountians Sharks 3-1 in a match much tougher than the score line suggests. Our league campaign opened with a 1-4 victory at local rivals Kew Park Rangers.  For details on all games, see Match Reports and Pictures.
