Old Isleworthians 4-1 Kew Association Youth, 13 Sep, League
Our first league game of the season and we knew we would be in for a tough match as our opponents Old Isleworthians had been a Premier Elite side last season. We started the game very positively although we found ourselves on the back foot for opening five minutes. However, we started to control the game and it wasn’t long before we scored our first goal of the season to go 1-0 up. Midfielder Chris Howden played a great pass to striker Charles Hall who controlled the ball and placed his shot into the bottom corner. We then came under a lot of pressure for ten minutes where we could have conceded, had our goalkeeper Sonny Jaskeran not pulled off some fantastic saves to deny the opposition. Suddenly the game changed in our favour and we found ourselves dominating possession, a lot of credit has to go to our midfield who worked extremely hard to contain the Isleworthians’ attack. We could have gone 2-0 up when Chris Howden volleyed a fantastic effort which hit the underside of the bar and was cleared out. Half time ended with Kew taking a goal lead into the second half.
Isleworthians went on the attack for most of the second half and before we knew it, we had surrendered our goal advantage. Isleworthians went on to take the lead due to some miscommunication in the defence. Our performance in the second half was barely recognisable from we had done in the first half. We had a couple of half chances to level, the best falling to Charles Hall who struck a great shot on the angle that the keeper was able to parry out. We went on to concede a further two goals, the game ending 4-1 which we felt was a rather flattering score line.
However we were delighted with our first half efforts and know that if we can dominate an ex-premier elite side who played very good football, we are more than capable of being strong competitors in this division. Our next game is at home against Kew Park Rangers where we will look to pick up our first win of the season.
