Code of Conduct 2008/09

  • All club officials must acknowledge and adhere to the Child Protection Policy. This policy is for all age groups and is available in hard copy or electronically for all persons associated with the respective teams and club. Your associated league's Management committee have the right to inspect that policy at any time during the playing season.
  • All officials and players must abide by the laws of the Football Association and any rules detailed in the Handbook of your respective league.
  • It is a requirement of membership to Kew Association Youth FC that all club officials, Managers, Assistant Managers, Coaches, or any other person(s) who represent the team(s) will ensure the well being and safety of all players, spectators and officials (including nonofficial) at all times whilst engaged in any matches which are governed by your respective league.
  • All Club Officials, Managers, Assistant Managers, Coaches or Committee member(s) are responsible for the behaviour of their team players and supporters (the terms of which should include, the use of bad language, aggressive behaviour, gestures or physical contact, which will not be tolerated. Disciplinary action may be taken not only by Kew Association Youth FC, but also by the County FA and the respective league).
  • All incidents that are associated with the above clause, including the conduct and behaviour of any opposition and their associated supporters and official(s) must be reported immediately to the Club's appointed Welfare officer. Failure to do so may result in a fine from the County FA, the respective league and Kew Association Youth FC
  • Racism will not be tolerated at Kew Association Youth FC
  • All Managers and Club officials will ensure that they install within their players and supporters the conduct of fair play, sportsmanship and equality on and off the field of play.
  • Adhere to and promote Kew Association Youth's own policy of 'ZERO TOLERANCE'. Please note this policy applies not only to visiting players, club officials and supporters but also to all Kew Youth personnel, both at home and away.
  • We are a Standard Charter Club and as such we are required to conduct ourselves appropriately on and off the field.

Discipline & Fines

  • Fines are not covered by club fees and therefore will not be paid by the club on behalf of any player or club official.
  • Fines may be given in two ways, the most common are those as a result of cautions issued during a game in the form of a Yellow card (caution) or Red card (dismissal). You will need to refer to your league for the levy on each caution.
  • If a player receives a caution, he may be fined, at which point he will receive a letter from the Youth Secretary instructing him of the amount he has to pay. The player must pay this immediately, failure to do so will result in the player being suspended until the fine is paid.
  • Yellow Cards are subject to no appeal
  • Red Cards are subject to appeal
  • It is important to note that from the 2008 season onwards only the team captain may approach the match official during a game.
  • Fines may be given by the club to any player or club official if found in breach of our code of conduct.
  • In addition to any fine received you will receive an additional £2 administration fee from the Club. You may also receive further disciplinary action from the Club and the League

Health & Safety

  • Every effort will be made to secure the health and safety of players, club officials and supporters whilst within the perimeter of the Club. This effort can only be made if all parties concerned behave and conduct themselves appropriately.
  • All managers must carry a first aid kit and there will be at all times a qualified first aider on the premises.
  • All in incidents must be reported to the Club Welfare Officer
  • Kew Association Youth FC offer no guarantee on Health and Safety whilst outside the perimeter of the Club

Kew AFC Code of Conduct

As part of the Application and Accreditation for the FA Charter Mark, the Kew Association Football Club has put in place a Code of Conduct that applies to Players, Coaches, Team Officials and Spectators. The Club expects this Code to be adhered to and enforced at each and every game.

 Within Kew AFC we are proud of our disciplinary record and strive to continue to both maintain and improve upon it.  The disciplinary procedures in place do of course differ in relation to the position you hold within the club.  Players are asked to view the clubs disciplinary procedures so that they are fully aware of what is expected of them and how they will be treated by the club as a result of an infringement of the code.

 Infringements of the code by all other parties, excluding players are likely in most cases to be dealt with following a three stage disciplinary system.

Stage 1

A verbal warning would usually be given to any individual deemed to be breaking the code.

Stage 2

If further breaches occur a written warning maybe issued.

Stage 3

If the individual concerned fails to address the problem, the individual concerned is likely to be asked to leave the club or abstain from watching games.

The club reserves the right to move away from this process in circumstances where there are serious or dangerous breaches of the Code

 Code Of Conduct For Players

A Player should:
1. Make every effort to develop their own sporting abilities, in terms of skill, technique, tactics and stamina.
2. Give maximum effort and strive for the best possible performance during a game, even if his team is in a position where the desired result has already been achieved.
3. Set a positive example for others, particularly young players and supporters.
4. Avoid all forms of gamesmanship and time-wasting.
5. Always have regard to the best interests of the game, including where publicly expressing an opinion on the game and any particular aspect of it, including others involved in the game.
6. Not use inappropriate language.
7. Make every effort consistent with fair play and the laws of the game to help his/her own team win.
8. Resist any influence which might, or might be seen to bring into question his/her own commitment to the team.
9. Know and abide by the laws, rules and spirit of the game and competition rules.
10. Accept success and failure, victory and defeat equally.
11. Resist any temptation to take banned substances or use banned techniques.
12. Treat opponents with due respect at all times, irrespective of the result of the game.
13. Safeguard the physical fitness of opponents, avoid violence and rough play, and help injured opponents.
14. Accept the decisions of match officials without protest.
15. Avoid words or actions which may mislead match officials.
16. Show due respect to match officials.
17. Abide by the instructions of their coach and team officials, provided they do not contradict the spirit of this code.
18. Show due respect towards the team officials of the opposition.
19. Show due respect to the interests of the supporters.

Code Of Conduct for Team Officials

A team official should:
1. Set a positive example for others, particularly young players and supporters.
2. Promote and develop his/her own team having regard to the interests of the players, supporters and reputation of the national game.
3. Share knowledge and experience when invited to do so, taking into account the interest of the body that has requested this rather than personal interests.
4. Avoid all forms of gamesmanship.
5. Show due respect to match officials and others involved in the game.
6. Always have regard to the best interests of the game, including where publicly expressing an opinion of the game and any particular aspect of it, including others involved in the game.
7. Not use or tolerate inappropriate language.
8. Make every effort to develop the sporting, technical and tactical levels of the club/team, and to obtain the best results by the team, using all permitted means.
9. Give priority to the interests of the team, using all permitted means.
10. Resist all illegal or unsporting influences, including banned substances and techniques.
11. Promote ethical principles.
12. Show due respect to the interests of the players, coaches and other officials, at their own club/team and others.
13. Show due respect to the interests of the supporters.
14. Accept the decisions of the match officials without protest.
15. Avoid words or actions which may mislead a match official.
16. Show due respect towards match officials.

Code Of Conduct for Coaches

Coaches must:
1. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of each and every person and treat each equally within the context of the sport.
2. Place the well being and safety of each player above all considerations including the development of performance.
3. Adhere to all guidelines laid down by governing bodies.
4. Must develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based on mutual trust and respect.
5 Must not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.
6. Must encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
7. Must ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of players.
8. At the outset clarify with players (and where appropriate, parent) exactly what is expected of them and also what they are entitled to expect from their coach.
9. Must cooperate fully with other specialists in the best interests of the player.
10. Must always promote the positive aspects of the sport and never condone violations of the laws of the game, behaviour contrary to the spirit of the laws of the game or relevant rules and regulations or the use of prohibited substances or techniques.
11 Must consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
12. Not use or tolerate inappropriate language.

Code Of Conduct for Parents/Spectators

Parents/Spectators have a great influence on children's enjoyment and success in football. All children play football because they first and foremost love the game - it's fun. It is important to remember that however good a child becomes at football within the club it is important to reinforce the message to parents/spectators that positive encouragement will contribute to:
- Children enjoying football
- a sense of personal achievement
- self-esteem
- assist to improve the child's skills and techniques

A parent's/spectator's expectations and attitude have a significant bearing on a child's attitude towards;
- other players
- officials
- managers
- spectators

Ensure that parents/spectators within the club are always positive and encouraging towards all the children, not just their own.

Encourage parents/spectators to;
- applaud the opposition as well as your own team
- avoid coaching the child during the game
- not to shout and scream
- give attention to each of the children involved in football not just the most talented
- give encouragement to everyone to participate in football

Ensure that parents/spectators within the club agree and adhere to the clubs Code of Conduct and Child Protection Policy
