2009-10 season: Although we started by losing our two youngest teams from the previous season, we gained an extra 11-a-side team, the U12 Colts, thus keeping numbers of players almost the same. The season ends with some successes and again an expansion at the younger age range, but sadly our U15s and U16s were unable to continue, so overall we’ve contracted to seven youth teams. We wish their players and managers all the best. However, you can still follow the exploits of all our teams last season by following the links to each team.
It was a mixed bag of outcomes for our teams.
Under 18 Youth Although an U17 side, our senior Youth team found themselves in the U18 Premier Elite division of the Surrey Youth League, which ran a combined U17 and U18 division. After a steady start they emerged from the pack in the New Year, beating team after team above them, to take the lead, only to see Kingstonians pip them by one point with their games in hand. But from bottom of a lower division to runners up in the premier elite is quite an achievement.
Under 17 Colts went looking for new pastures and had success in Division One of the Surrey Primary League. They struggled in early games but as they found their rhythm, began moving up the table, eventually finishing third.
Under 17 Casuals started with much of the team that finished 3rd the previous season but found other sides had strengthened. After a poor start, they got in some new players and were competitive with most sides by season’s end.
Under 16 Youth had a disappointing season. Hoping to build on a good recovery by the previous season, they again went off as the weather worsened, losing too many games by a single goal. Highlight was making it to the semi-finals of the Invitation Cup. Sadly, the team isn’t continuing.
Under 15 Youth followed a first difficult season with another, losing too many players between season, they virtually had to start from scratch. There was such a split between the top and bottom halves of their division, a case could have been made for splitting it. Against their fellow strugglers they were competitive, although could have done better.
Under 13 Youth had a bit of a mixed season, struggling at first and dropping into mid table, but quite capable of putting double figures in goals past the weaker sides. A good run towards the end of the season saw them move up to third.
Under 12 Youth earned promotion to the Premier division and the main aim of the season was to consolidate their position there. At one stage they got as high as 3rd in the league, but ended with mid-table respectability to build on in the future.
Under 12 Colts were a new team and after making a good start, struggled through the winter. A return to form near the end moved them away from the bottom of the table. A creditable perfomance, especially given that half the side were Under 11s. This team has split into two for the coming season - Under 13 Colts and Under 12 Youth.
